Navarra by Peter Cook

Twin brothers Jerry and Harry Jackson live on Navarra, a sheep station in Western Queensland.

Their life is idyllic until they are sent away to high school at Southport. Jerry adjusts to being away from home, Harry doesn’t. He yearns to be back on the property, working with his father.

Suddenly their world is upended. Their mother is killed in a quadbike accident while mustering. Harry gets his wish to return to Navarra. Jerry goes to Ag College but dreams of becoming a writer. He spends less time working on the property.

Harry brings Sandra, a shearer’s daughter to Navarra as his partner. He becomes moody and develops a vicious streak. He resents Jerry pursuing his writing career and wants him out of Navarra.

Their relationship worsens. Jerry finds he can’t work with his brother and discovers that Harry is fighting with Sandra. Jerry tells her to leave but she wants to stay on Navarra.

Then she vanishes.
