First-time author and former sports journalist Toby Prime has officially launched his first book - Famous Flags: Great Local Grand Finals.
The book includes 14 games from various parts of Melbourne and Victoria, capturing the people and emotion involved at community level.
Chapters range from the 1990 Ovens & Murray ‘Bloodbath’, to Kinglake’s inspiring run to the grand final in the same year Black Saturday razed the town and Gary Moorcroft’s Bundoora hanger – just like his 2001 AFL Mark of the Year – which sparked an epic comeback. As shared in this book, grand final memories last a lifetime.
The book was launched on July 13 at the Royal Melbourne Hotel and was attended by over 100 guests. Luke Beveridge and Jeff Gieschen - both of whom feature in the book - reflected on their involvement in local football as the special guest speakers. Luke also provided a thoughtful foreword on the importance of local football.
Toby plans on attending each of the clubs featured in the book as part of a promotional tour and for those involved to relive these great grand finals.
